Dain Iskandar Said, is a multifaceted Malaysian filmmaker. He has worked as a director, actor, screenwriter and producer in various projects. Dain studied Film and Photography at the University of Westminster in London. Besides movies, he has worked on various media projects, including short films, TV shows, commercials, media installations and documentaries.
In 2009, he co-founded Apparat Sdn. Bhd., a film production company, with his partner Nandita Solomon and together they have been producing great movies.
Dain Said made his debut as a director back in 1990 with the experimental short film Surabaya Johnny. His first feature film was the controversial film Dukun (2007), which was banned for a decade and was shelved for 12 years due to its controversial subject matter based. Not allowing that to dampen his art, Dain gained more recognition with his critically acclaimed film Bunohan (2012), which was nominated for several awards.
His second feature film, Bunohan, was released in 2012 and was Malaysia's entry for the Oscars. His third feature film, Interchange, was released in 2016 and had its world premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival. Dukun was finally released in 2018.
Dain is still actively making waves with his movies, receiving the Best Director award at the 8th Horrorant Film Festival with his latest movie Harum Malam.
