DARREN CHIN
Chef & Restaurateur
Darren Chin is a chef and restaurateur. Darren’s culinary journey is rooted deeply in family—his father, David Chin, kickstarted the successful Dave’s Deli chain.
Darren’s cut his teeth at the renowned Le Cordon Bleu culinary institute in Paris and graduated with Grand Diplôme in cuisine and pâtisserie. He then interned at Top Chef France finalist Pierre Sang-Boyer’s Bistronomique and furthered his career at the Michelin-starred Lasserre. The chef went on to win the Délifrance Sandwich World Cup in 2012 and the Golden Cauldron for Best All-Round Restaurant at the Malaysia International Gastronomy Festival twice in 2016 and 2018.
Darren returned to Kuala Lumpur in 2014 and created the eponymously abbreviated DC Restaurant which came into the spotlight as only one of two restaurants in Kuala Lumpur to be awarded 1 Michelin Star in the country’s first Michelin Guide in 2022. DC Restaurant has become one of the country’s acclaimed restaurants thanks to its inventive menus drawn from Darren’s keen French culinary skills. As a restaurateur, Darren owns a growing list of eateries including Isaan-inspired Thai restaurant Gai, Bref a café-style outlet and Bistrot David which he shares with his father.
