Directors Cut Series

Launching in 2025

The Director’s Cut Series is designed to provide an in-depth look at the creative processes behind some of the most influential films. Directors are invited to discuss their movies in detail, sharing their experiences, challenges, and triumphs during the filmmaking process. This series not only celebrates well-known directors but also shines a light on lesser-known yet equally impactful filmmakers, ensuring a diverse and inclusive representation of the film industry.

This small project allows directors to share their personal anecdotes and behind-the-scenes stories that offer a unique perspective on their films. These breakdowns provide a deeper understanding of the directors’ visions and the creative decisions that shaped their movies.

We also go through the pivotal moments in making these films. The series highlights crucial moments in the filmmaking process, such as casting decisions, location scouting, and the development of key scenes. The directors elaborate on the challenges they faced and how they overcame them, providing valuable lessons for aspiring filmmakers. As our local films are inspired by everyday stories, this series also places a strong emphasis on the cultural significance of the films being discussed.

In addition to featuring prominent directors, the series also highlights the work of lesser-known filmmakers whose contributions are equally important. This approach ensures a comprehensive portrayal of the nation’s film industry, celebrating both mainstream and independent cinema.

The Director’s Cut Series is more than just a collection of interviews; it is a vital part of The Living History Project’s mission to preserve and promote Malaysia’s cultural heritage. By documenting the stories and experiences of filmmakers, the series helps to safeguard the legacy of Malaysia’s film industry for future generations. It also provides a platform for directors to share their knowledge and inspire the next generation of filmmakers.
